After trying a few different brands I finally found Nikon in 2012 and haven’t looked back since. I have a hefty point & shoot that zooms to the moon (literally). With the Snapbridge app I can control my camera gear and also save photos to my phone to share instantly!
I was looking into upgrading to DSLR but realized skipping over it and going mirrorless was a better choice for my budget in the long run. I like the small compact full frame bodies with the stabilization. The Z5 is fine for most of my simple needs but I decided to add the Z6ii body for my school theater photography work and a couple prime & macro lenses.
While the flagships Nikon Z8 & Z9 are beyond my current needs & budget as well as Z7/7ii, I have now acquired the Zf body in black. This cameras looks great, has excellent features (including the flippy screen!) and fits my restricted budget on payment plan especially after the rebate comes in on my Z5 kit. I do plan on acquiring a speedlight flash and z lens with more than 50mm zoom within the next year to 2 years, I may apply for micgrogrant towards the zoom lens & speedlight. I looked at the new Z6III but it was already on backorder and the Zf has many of the same awesomeness built in with a retro style look.
I just found the Nikon trade-in program so I’ll send in my Z5 body & lens kit (still worth up to $600+) to trade towards the Zf. My stuff is still in good to excellent condition so I would get a rebate towards the new full frame flippy screen body with more advanced tech. Later on I’m planning to trade the 28mm lens for the retro style 28mm lens for the rebate & to match the Zf style.
I’ll apply for the microgrant that got me the laptop this year towards a Nikkor Z zoom lens & the speedlight flash early next year. Once I’ve made my trades I intend on sticking with all the gear I’ll have. The Zf has a lot to offer in my case, and this is how it compares to my current gear. I decided to go ahead with the trade in for my Z5 kit on the Zf body, super excited!
