After almost passing out in the sand bar last year I opted for a seat in the shade. I got in the front row on the aisle of an elevated section just below nosebleeds near bathrooms and food.
2 nights before the show we found out that Metro transit would be running public transportation options due to another event taking place at the same time so Mom and I got a round trip train ticket for $20. We had lunch at a Burger King an hour down the road from home and still made it to the train with 5 minutes to spare. We saw that there are still some big trees down from the storms we had only a couple weeks earlier. We took the highway to the train which meant we had to slow down to 30 mph quite a lot going through the towns.
Everyone was talking excitedly as the train pulled up to Target Field. We got off the train and I walked all the way around trying to find the Blue Chair Bay rum spot but I never found it. So I took my photo with the big black Corona bus with the skull & bones logo holding my pirate flags. Then we went back around to our gate and entered so we could enjoy all of the show starting with Kacey Musgraves, then Eli Young Band, then Zac Brown Band (they filled in for Eric Church at this show) then Kenny came out around 9 pm.
This was the first show I’ve attended as a 30-something and with the Nikon I purchased around the end of last summer. I was very happy with the photos I took from the distance we were, I had no problem zooming down to the stage. It was really windy so I had to fight that and keep the camera from moving the best I could. I took a hat but I could hardly wear it, the gusts were too high.
After the show we skedaddled back down to the train (the buses were parked on the other side of the fence, I was so tempted to jump it and leave haha) so we wouldn’t miss our ride back to our car an hour away. It was great just to sit back and relax and not worry about dealing with traffic and directions. The people across from us had 14 cups from all their booze and they gave me one. When we got off at our stop (the end of the line) we got to the car and headed for the interstate. Around St Cloud we hit a rough little thunderstorm and we got to mom’s just before 3 am. Then we had to get up by 9 am so mom would get to work on time at 10. I came home, showered, watched fireworks from my living room that night after the show and slept. Sunday there was supposed to be a parade in the afternoon but it was raining all day so that got cancelled. Oh well, at least we made it to the fire hall for the pancake feed.
I have 2 more shows to attend before fall begins so come on back for more!
