When I found out that my all time favorite band Diamond Rio was playing just an hour & a half away I knew I had to go. Also on the bill were Rocket Club, David Nail, Jerrod Niemann & Lonestar so I knew the price was worth it.
It was an unusually cool day in late July up here in MN. I wore as much of my old Diamond Rio gear as I could (T-shirt, took a sweatshirt & jacket, wore a ball cap & had a special wash cloth just for Dana – yes the same one who called me years ago) so that when I walked up close to the stage people would know I was a big fan.
After we set up our folding chairs we noticed a plane flying overhead. We watched in awe as a handful of skydivers jumped out before the party got under way.
Rocket Club was on first, then Diamond Rio was on right after them. I got up as close as the crowd would let me and had my wash cloth ready so Dana saw me and took a photo from the stage. He has a weekly online live show on Monday nights calledRadio Rehab and the motto is “Pony like a wash cloth” so that’s what I had written on the wash cloth.
After the Rio boys finished their awesome set David Nail came on. Then it took at least 30 min or longer for Jerrod Niemann to come out. I wasn’t thrilled about that wait so I got some food & a drink & used the bathroom.
Finally Lonestar came out and wrapped up a great day of music. The show was a fundraiser for the Cold Spring fire department and I’m pretty sure about all of the town was in attendance at the show, but not more than 10,000.
My only grievance was the cool & windy weather as well as the standing people being in front of the sitting people.
